Human beings are part of nature, a city needs to protect the environment via sustainable development to nurture more diverse lifestyles. Innovative technology and artistic creation can be the answer to the coexistence between man and nature, and can also move people emotionally. The mimicry works with lighting amplify visual senses, and soften the coldness of technology. The lights are gathered here, like a warm sun in the winter, bringing us light in the darkest moments.
This lantern area employs the combination of biomimicry artworks and natural ecology to demonstrate the harmony of field and art, the lush greenery of the canal around gives the rich flavor of the theme.

Applying the iconic elements for his artistic creation (i.e. bamboo sticks and feathers), Yu dyed them white to create a snow-white scene. The feathers swaying in the wind are like the flower spikes in full bloom on the grassland. Upon treading on the trails, the artificial giant lanterns surrounded by the sea of flowers come into view, as if you are in the story of Alice in Wonderland, a dream-like fantasy.
"Living toward the light" is the most primitive and basic instinct of all beings in the world. Like bees and butterflies attracted to light and flowers, visitors interacting with the works will definitely experience one of the most romantic moments in life in this Lantern Festival.
Simulating the movement of magpies flying in the air, the work presents crowds of birds flying along the moat. The graceful and slowly undulating structure moves like a magpie flapping its wings while flying against the wind to bring good news to people in the New Year. The artists master creating a field where man and nature learn from each other in the city, and turning the common natural elements into never ending surprises. This work leads us to contemplate the environmental issues caused by the development of civilization and the importance of environmental conservation.

白晝之葉 Leaves of White Night | 游文富 YU, Wen-Fu
The bridge over the city moat is a beautiful path in the tree shade towards the museum. The moat in the east is open again, turning the sad atmosphere depicted in Cambridge, ere we part once more by Hamilton Hsu into a joyful encounter. The work hang fake white leaves onto the bridge to create a sharp contrast with the space in the tree shade. The dangling leaves dance with real leaves in their vicinity, forming a river reflection that tells the story of the city of wind.
Tsai & Yoshikawa
Light, Wind and Dreams created by Tsai & Yoshikawa (Hsiao-Chi Tsai and Kimiya Yoshikawa), an artist duo based in the UK, is a series of sculptures combining light and shadow in Hsinchu Moat Lights. Rising gracefully above the water, the representation of Light, Wind and Dreams is a tribute to the CMY colour model, articulating the eternal cycles of Mother Nature by depicting contrasts of water fluidity and the durable solid mediums such as acrylic. Adding dense fluorescent colours onto aluminium and stainless steel supports surreal forms and recalls the vitality of the work. The natural movement patterns of the three flowers spontaneously flow with the water current and romantically weaving a picturesque on the water, resulting in visionary imagery to prompt everyone to light up their soul and follow their dreams.
The work is installed on an open grassland, attracting passengers’ to stay and watch. The lights form a circular structure, creating dispersed shadows of viewers. The structure along with music lead the viewers through imagined time travel. The music presents images of Hsinchu to enable visitors to enjoy a trip in Hsinchu inside the Electronic Monster. Sounds were recorded in different places(Wu Tsan-Cheng) in Hsinchu and mixed into a piece of rhythmic and energetic music.
Music is created by Yao, Chung-Han and Tseng, Jui-Pin. (B.C.B)
